Wedding Venues Scotland
As wedding photographers we have a unique insight into
wedding venues throughout Scotland. We see ‘behind the scenes’ since we can be
seen as staff as well as guests. This combination gives us a view into the inner
workings of the venues and churches - information that is helpful to the bride
and groom.
As I have said before, we are so lucky in Scotland with our many lovely
wedding venues. They come in all shapes and sizes and cater for just about any
whim. Some have amazing scenery, some have a great atmosphere and great staff,
some are grand, some are cosy and some have it all! This piece is not meant to
be a guide to your wedding venue but an insight into some of the places where we
have worked this year.
In Aberdeenshire there are some spectacular country house hotels. The
history of these old houses is always fascinating, and in many ways it’s great
that they have been saved from ruin by becoming charming hotels. We feel these
can provide a really good ‘all in one package’ for a wedding day. There is a lot
to be said for having the entire hotel to yourself - it’s like having your own
country house for the weekend.
Thainstone House Hotel,
based fifteen miles west of Aberdeen, is one of our favourites. We always feel
the bride is happy with this hotel. The rooms are well furnished, the staff are
fantastic, and the potential for capturing beautiful images is excellent. The
charming arched porch at the front door helps to create a romantic backdrop for
an superb array of shots, and the front lawn provides a lovely open space,
enabling us to create all sorts of different pictures.
Norwood Hall Hotel on the
outskirts of Aberdeen is another hotel we love. People travel from all over
Scotland and indeed the world to have their weddings here. It’s a fantastic
venue steeped in romantic history. The staircase is exceptional, probably one of
the most beautiful anywhere. The whole interior is special and we have
photographed some lovely weddings here.
Another favourite location in Aberdeenshire is
Maryculter House Hotel. This
really is a wonderful place to get married. When the weather is right there is
nowhere nicer than on the banks of the River Dee - such a romantic spot for
photos. If you happen to be passing through, ask to see our album which now has
a permanent spot in their picturesque sitting room!
There are so many lovely locations in Aberdeenshire. This is is by no
means a definitive list. It is just a few of the wonderful places where we have
worked this year - there are many more and we will tell you about them all in
due course.
There are also many gorgeous churches throughout Scotland. Many of our
couples who get married in a church choose to visit another another location for
photographs before going to their reception. These can be gardens, family homes,
castles, National Trust properties or even a spot by their favourite river. We
love doing this - these places are steeped in history and can add such
atmosphere to your special day. For example
Dunnottar Castle is an
incredibly dramatic spot perched on a promontory above the North Sea on the
coast of North East Scotland.
