Lochnagar and Cuidhe Crom

I was looking at this photo thinking it could be a photograph of the surface of the moon, or maybe the end of the world?  Looks pretty bleak, and it was so cold. My two sons David and Jamie decided to have a go at climbing Lochnagar so I thought I’d go with them. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would be so extreme. We didn’t get to the top in the end of because of the ice and wind, but we did get to the top of a mountain beside it called Cuidhe Crom a Murdo. The first two photos below are me just about to reach the cairn on the top.

Luckily for me the boys decided not to go on. The weather was closing in – what a relief – I had a wedding the next day.  My dog Rufus had been so brave. He had found it really hard to walk over the icy rocks and to protect himself from the wind. His camouflage was very good up there. This is him at the end of the day….
