We had a lovely wedding this weekend at Pittodrie House Hotel. Dionne and Paul were a great couple who were very much in love. It was a brilliant day and the weather just about held off for us! We managed to get outside into the beautiful grounds of the hotel with Bennachie just peeping through the mist. I wish you both all the happiness in the future! Here are some of the pictures.
We have just launched a very exciting new product for the studio! We are now offering boudoir photography sessions. We aim to create are some really stunning, unique images of you. The photos are taken in our studio and you are free to use our various, tasteful props like feather boa’s and silk gowns! Our chaise longue is always a favourite. Although you are welcome to fix your own make-up and hair, we would strongly suggest using our fantastic hair and make-up artist who will have you looking your absolute best – Chicabelle Make-Up Artistry. Frances is so talented. Your day will comprise coming into the studio to have your hair and make-up done, then we go through to the studio room and start taking some shots. We’ll then take a break and have some coffee and biscuits. We then like to have a wardrobe change and carry on with the session to get some more great shots. This all usually takes 3 to 4 hours roughly. It’s a really fun experience and you are left with a set of picture you will never forget. Have a look at some we have done is the past.
On Friday 16th November we had a very successful launch party of the new studio on Victoria Road. As soon as the doors opened, the studio soon became packed with our friends (past and future brides and grooms, and those in the industry). Much food and wine was consumed and everyone enjoyed having a look around the super premises which we share with Darren of Eternal Video. Thank you to everyone that came along! Janie staggered home with a car-load of beautiful flower bouquets, cards and yummy handmade cupcakes!
The studio looks fantastic – beautifully bright and welcoming. Sample albums are available so you are very welcome to pop in to have a browse through them. We have fully equipped the separate portrait area with top of the range lighting and backdrops, so we can take memorable photographs of you or your loved ones – a portrait shoot would make an ideal Christmas present for that person who has everything! If you’re feeling more daring, we also offer beautiful, artistic boudoir which includes a full hair and makeup by Aberdeens best makeup artist and hairdresser.
So please do come along to see the studio for yourself at 39-41 Victoria Road which is very easy to find (go past the main entrance to Union Square shopping centre, across the bridge and the studio is on the left hand side a short way along.
I am so excited by this news. We are opening our first Janie Barclay Photography studio! It’s going to be on Victoria Road (Aberdeen) – that’s right next to Union Square! We have been thinking about this and looking for locations. When we saw this we know it was the right place. It is huge with an office and kitchen as well as large space for the actual studio as well. Perfect! We are going to have an opening night on the 16th Of November so I hope I see you there.

This amazing hotel is located just 30 minutes outside Aberdeen, very near a little village called Oldmeldrum. Meldrum House Hotel is very special and we just love doing weddings here.
I think the original building dates back to at least the 14th century. It was build as a defensive tower house. The original house has now been changed beyond recognition with the addition of two wings and a stable block the house was completely redesigned again in the 1930’s. It has been a hotel since I can remember and now has a famous golf course attached to it.
During recent times the hotel has been very successful as a wedding venue and has become one of the premier venues in Aberdeenshire, and in fact Scotland. It has some unique features and with the addition of a permanent marquee has all
the facilities needed for a special wedding. The stable block adds a lovely backdrop to have some lovely photography done.
The pink arch is fantastic and we get some really stunning shots here. If your ceremony is in the stable, then with our two photographers we can have one on the balcony and one at the front making for some amazing coverage of the
If you have a smaller amount of guest you can eat in the dining room, but if you have a larger number then you can use the huge marquee to have your reception. This then becomes the stage for the dancing.
The outside of the house can provide some great scenery for your photographs, the pond is lovely in the summer with all sort of different birds on it. Then the stairs outside the house can be used to photograph your whole wedding in one picture. It makes for a unforgettable photograph! Inside there is the fireplace in the lounge and a nice staircase for some warmer shots!
We just love doing weddings here and always come away with a smile. I think this is due to always having happy couple here and knowing that our photos will blow you away! If you are having a wedding here please have a look at our
photographs from here and you will see that there is no better choice for your special day!
Pittodrie House Hotel is one of our favorite venues – we know and love the people who work there and we are sure we will all be very well looked after! We were delighted when the beautiful Jennifer asked us to photograph her wedding to Scott there. We arrived at the hotel to find some very nervous bridesmaids practicing their walk down the aisle, so instantly the cameras came out and the day began. It was such a lovely ceremony, full of laughter and tears (of joy!) and Jen looked simply stunning in her dress.
After the ceremony we gathered everybody up for a group photo in the sunshine and took some lovely family shots on the steps in front of the hotel . As always we were so lucky with the weather. Jen was a amazing in front of the camera – we had such fun and we got some lovely shots of her – Scott as well!
They are such a great lovely couple and we really wish them all the best in the future.
This was something a bit different for us. We helped with a fashion show at Newmachar Hotel, this was in aid of Newmachar Village Hall. Lots of people helped out and the night went amazing! The models from Modelz UK were stunning, the clothes provided by ALTRO of Inveruire were fabulous, the colors of some of the dresses was out of this world! We set up our powerful and portable studio lights and snapped away on the cat walk. It was a great experience and thanks to everyone involved! We got to go back stage after the show and get some groups. Enjoy the pictures!
We had great fun doing this, it was a change for our cameras. We like a challenge and we are always learning and evolving, so doing this with the fantastic crew of Modelz UK was great.
We have been looking forward to this wedding with the very charming and bubbly Sarah at Fyvie Castle and Ardoe House Hotel for a long time. We met Sarah at the Castle a few days before her wedding which gave us an opportunity to walk around and get to know it’s historical and beautiful rooms. It is known as Scotland’s Pink Castle. It is is steeped in history, myth and legend and the oldest parts date from the thirteenth century. It is a very special place to Sarah – she and Raymond knew it was where they wanted to get married. You can see why – it is very impressive. We were so lucky with the weather as always.
On the morning of the wedding I went to Ardoe House Hotel to be with Sarah’ and to photograph her getting ready whilst David headed to the castle to meet the Groom and the guests as they arrived for the wedding. After the ceremony we did a mix of formal family groups that Sarah wanted as well as some more candid relaxed shots of the guests and bridal party. All of these images will create a gorgeous wedding album for Sarah and Raymond.
The ceremony room is magnificent with beautifully decorated walls and ceiling. There are lovely big windows letting in a soft light and the grand piano adds to the whole feel and atmosphere of the room. The gardens and grounds outside are stunning as well and are a perfect backdrop for beautiful images. The obvious locations for photographs of the castle are on the front lawn with the impressive castle in the background. Have a look at these we did on the day.
As I said before the inside of the castle is quite stunning for photographs. There is a rich collection of portraits by artists as famous as Raeburn, Romney and Gainsborough! We had the opportunity to take some beautiful pictures of the bridal party.
After the photographs at Fyvie Castle we headed off to Ardoe House Hotel for the reception. We love this hotel as it presents us with so many beautiful locations both inside and out. We started with some formal posed shots followed by the more artistic and romantic images we love doing so much. These are always our favourite of the day and we often get quite carried away and forget the time!
Sarah was a wonderful bride with a wicked sense of humour and she had us giggling most of the time! It was a magical day and we had so much fun. What a super couple – we enjoyed being with her and her husband Raymond so much. This really was a fairytale wedding I am sure they will both will live happily ever after!
We had a magical day at Meldrum House Hotel with Lynsey and Gary. I was worried about the weather in the morning but, lucky as always, it had all cleared up by the time we got to the hotel. Lynsey was a very beautiful bride as you can see in the photographs and her dress looked absolutely stunning. They had a beautiful ceremony in the marquee at Meldrum House Hotel. It was very romantic and there were a few tears shed. I think our images reflect the joy and romanticism of the day. You can see Lynsey’s lovely dress in this photo – the detail was amazing.
As I said we were so lucky with the weather and did all the groups outside. We even managed to get the bride and groom outside in the gorgeous grounds of the hotel. Meldrum House is always an inspiring place to take photographs. Here are some pictures to show you what fun we had!
Thank you to all who were involved in this memorable day. What a fantastic family, what super friends and we wish the happy couple all the best in the future.
